I am so tired and I have no idea why. The major drama of the wedding thus far is over. All of the bridesmaids dresses are on order with the bridal shop (mostly). I had to e-mail the owner of the store my younger sister's measurements. The owner is starting a vacation until Thanksgiving, so I have no clue when the dresses will actually be ordered. I just have to thank my friends (Jen/Nina) for being so awesome in helping me find the dress and putting up with the copious e-mails. It seriously shouldn't be that hard to find a dress.
The worry that I have now is that every part of the wedding certain relatives are involved with are going to be pulling teeth like this one was. I still haven't heard from my father.  It has been over a month, and I have heard nothing from him.

Why is it every year I am surprised by how much knitting I have left to do for Christmas? I thought I was done with Sean's mother's gift. I pulled it out Thursday and was shocked by what I was smoking. The shawl doesn't work as a shawl, blanket, or anything. I am using my Luscious Single Silk in Valkyrie to make a Shetland Triangle for her. I have wanted this shawl for myself in this yarn. It has a lot more color than the photo shows. Does anyone want to buy me a skein from bluemoonfiberarts.com for the holidays? I still have to knit a sweater for my mom and socks for Sean and maybe Nannie.

Last night at 9:34, Sean and I were sitting listening to Fresh Air from NPR. My cell phone rang which was odd. There was no one who would call at that time of night this close to Halloween. It was a political call asking me to vote no on Prop 8. I very kindly explained that I no longer lived in California and had already voted in Colorado. She explained what the people who support Prop 8 are doing to get out the vote thus their measures. She then asked me to tell my friends and family in California to go and vote. I do think that get out the vote measures are good. I do not however believe I should be called after 7:00 PM or even on the voter roles still in LA County. I don't know how voter rolls are purged. I am still getting e-mails from the LA County Democrats and the lieutenant governor of the state.

There has got to be another person on the planet who has my problem. I am physically unable to wear shoes other than my Rainbow Sandals. I could probably buy them multiple times a year I wear them so much, instead of every May. Since May in the closed toe shoe department, I have bought a pair of Mephisto Mary Janes, a pair of Padigonia ballet flats, and some Clarks Slip On Loafers. They all cause me to blister in different parts of my foot. Today I went to The Walking Store; I had my foot measured (I do know my actual shoe size 7 1/2 or an 8 so the wrong size shoe isn't an issue ) tried on about 6 pairs of shoes. There were only three pairs of shoes that possibly could work. One pair was so ugly that there is no way I would ever spend $119 on them. I liked two pairs one is $124 (I need to see if we have the money) the other pair is a pair of clogs that are $190. I haven't gone absolutely nuts. There isn't any way on God's green earth that we can afford those. I don't know how I am going to cope with the cold coming on.

So I finished my fall chevron scarf just in time for the weather to get cold. I have been wearing my scarf constantly due to the cold. A daily high of 58 degrees Fahrenheit when it is grey and damp is cold for me. I don't do seasons; I'm from FL. The actual change in weather and being with Sean everyday has put me into a holiday mood. I am happily knitting on Christmas projects, Jen's shawl has four of nine repeats done. I then have to make a sweater for my mom and maybe two pairs of socks. I definitely need to finish Sean's pair.
I bought lighter fluid for the lighter the other day so I have been able to burn candles, which is something I've missed doing. We just need to find appropriate smelling candles to cover up the smell of cooking bacon.

I didn't really sleep last night. I tried but I saw 4 AM. I woke up today, and I walked all over town doing wedding stuff. I discussed when we should sign up with Men's Warehouse for tuxes (answer soon) to Barnes and Noble to get a book for Sean and I found the CD Filteau wanted. After BN, I went to the Boulder wedding shop. We finally found a bridesmaid dress that works for everyones body type and in the wedding color. I have already heard one person say they loved the dress. When I got home, Sean was here and we discussed what tuxes he was looking for. I found out what Sean wanted and I went back to Men's Warehouse and got all of our information entered. The next thing I know it was 5 PM. Tonight we are going over to a friend's to watch Fringe and Heroes. I'm excited, but a little tired.

I found out that I was not put forward to round two for another job. I was 9 points short of the qualifying score. I'm so disappointed. I really thought I had done a fantastic job on the essays. I think it may have to do with the lack of experience supervising people. I am allowing myself to wallow for the rest of the night and tomorrow I am contacting my Appleone rep.
On the plus side, we bought a trunk today and now all the books are put away. I also am working on sleeve one of my sweater.

I got news most knitters love to hear. My cousin (who is a fantastic person) is pregnant with her second child. She is due in May, and since she told people I assume everything is going well. When my mom told me, my reaction to the news was should I make the baby sweater I was going to use for Heather? My mom responded with "She is due in May; you can wait until June or July to deliver the present." I responded that so was Heather two baby sweaters made in the 12 month size wasn't a problem. It has now been about 30 minutes since I talked to my mom. I now realize why two babies due in May is a problem. I'm getting married May 23rd. I may be a little busy then. I might need to get started knitting now.
The car is working again. I hope it stops missing CA because it is getting expensive. I had it jumped this morning where it started right away. The guy from AAA told me to let it run for 25 minutes then drove away, and I started to leave. It was raining so I turned on my lights. The car instantly died with me in the middle of my parking lot with the car in reverse and on. I called the guy back. He jumped it again told me he thought the battery was done. I had been wondering if I should drive the car to Sears 20 miles away in Longmont or go to the garage 2 miles away. I chose the closer garage due to the battery having died on me once already. I was at the garage by 10:50 and home by 12. I stopped to get gas on the way back home got back in the car and it started right up again. I know it is silly but the car had been dead for a week. It is so nice to have a working car again. I can now keep on job hunting. The funny thing was we didn't have electricity in our apartment building from 10:30 to 1:40.

My car is missing California. First in Nevada the tire blew out, and I gave it four new tires plus a new wheel. This past week, I took the car to Longmont, CO twice, Estes Park, CO, and Littleton, CO. Today we went to the grocery store. We put the groceries in the trunk. The car wouldn't turn on. It didn't make any sound at all. I pay for a jump and am told to let it run for 25 minutes. Over a half hour later we finally go home. I turn off the car, and try to restart it. I got nothing later I tried again and it turns off the dome light. I am hoping one of Sean's friends will help give me a jump and follow me to the dealership to take me home after. My fear is that the alternator is dead.
I have started the sweater with my birthday yarn on the good front.

Saturday, August 30, 2008

I finally got the wheel fixed this week. We went up to Estes Park which was fun as always. I also got Sean to go down to Colorful Yarns in Littleton, CO. I have to admit to feeling a little stalkerish. I have read a blog of one of the employees for a few years. She was working to day and when she complimented my new Ravelry shirt I complimented her blog. Her knitting is really inspiring to me. They had the Dream in Color Smooshy that I have been wanting to see. I picked up two skeins to make the Noro Sweater that isn't going well. Sean thinks I was creepy when I was checking out. From reading the blog I know that this woman's dad is ill with cancer. I asked after him because of what I had read. Sean then mocked me the entire way home.

We have furniture. It is so nice not to be sitting on the floor as I type this. I have the kitchen completely unpacked. The bedroom is done; I'm just hanging pictures and such. I think that my books are going to smother us in our sleep. I have gone through most of the book boxes. I was able to unpack a few (mainly because there boxes were destroyed). I finally found all of my Thai Study books. They now live on top of my desk for the moment. I just need Sean to come home and take out the next round of boxes. I did the first two.

The movers called today. They are going to deliver my things tomorrow between 1-3 PM. I just want my things so badly. Sean and I are trying to figure out where things will go and how we can store all of our books. The shawl is coming along nicely.

Monday, August 11, 2008

I am somewhat settled in CO. We move into our new apartment this weekend. The furniture comes between the 15th and the 25th. I am looking for a job and knitting a Cleite Shawl unofficially for the Ravelympics and for the Gaskell kal/ral. I'm using some stashed Schiefer Andrea in the Diane Fosse. It is really nice.

Sunday, August 03, 2008

It is my birthday. I'm another year older, and I have to say that 25 wasn't a bad year. I am starting a new phase of life at 26. I have safely moved to CO. Monday before we moved we went to Claim Jumper with friends. Sean now understands the allure of the Chocolate Calzone. We were hoping to get on the road Tuesday after the movers came. They didn't arrive until 8:00. A Joy Feast order later for Sean, myself, and the friends from Monday we went to their house to sleep for the night. Thank you again for letting us stay with you Tuesday night. Wednesday, we got on the road and it was fine until, we had some difficulty in Nevada 40 miles outside of Las Vegas. When Sean was driving the front passenger tire blew out. One tow back to Las Vegas and three hours of time later, we had four new tires and were back on the road. The first night we made it to Cedar City, Utah. The next day we finished the drive through Utah (I swear that state never ends. I cheered at the Welcome to Colorful Colorado sign. I'm so glad to be able to be with Sean on a daily basis. I was a little people sick Friday. One call to Jen later, I had casted on a new sock and felt a lot better. Jen and the sock helped. I'm looking for a job, and gathering all of my notes for the thesis. I'm excited about this new phase of life. Sean also seems really happy. I also have to say it is nice to have a full size refrigerator again.

My refrigerator died. I move later this summer. I see a bit of a problem here. I think that eats this months travel budget.

I have a thesis interview lined up for next week which really excites me. My project is switching from a large scope to case studies. I can line up another couple interviews while at the CDC next week. I need to call Khun Tai to schedule a meeting with her. I will start that tonight.
I was thinking about knit swaps and the highs and lows of it. Some people don't ever receive their socks or they just don't feel like the swap partner put in the same effort that they do. I am proposing doing a swap amongst people you know. What do other people think? I have so much sock yarn that I need to have reasons to knit and finish socks.

I have created a skype account for a few reasons. My skype name is lumierelanuit and the e-mail is lumierelanuit@yahoo.com.
My Central Park Hoodie is coming along nicely. I am on the hood now. I was at an academic conference this past weekend and my paper went well and was well received.

I joined the Mystic Lights Knit Along because I really liked the images from the Mystic Waters shawl. It is made in two skeins of Fleece Artist. I'm going to use some of my Wollemeise laceweight yarn. I finished the shoulder shawl on Sunday. I'm worried it will be too small for the recipient. I also finished the socks for a friend, and I am now finishing a pair of simple cable socks for the holiday season. I am also working on a pair of socks for Sean. On my navy hoodie I am still working on the sleeves.
